Program Services
Home delivered Meals
The Meals on Wheels program provides a nutritious noontime meal and personal contact to homebound seniors five days a week. Approximately 1,700 Sacramento County seniors receive Meals on Wheels. Meals are prepared in our central kitchen at 847 F Street, West Sacramento. Volunteer drivers deliver the food to client's homes. This service is provided on the basis of need, regardless of income to persons 60 years of age and older.
The meals provide at least 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowance for adults. A registered dietitian plans all of the menus with the seniors' health in mind. The food is served hot and ready to eat in a reusable container.
The meals are delivered Monday through Friday in the morning from 9:30 -11:30 and in the afternoon from 12:30 - 2:00 except on major holidays. In addition to meals, drivers also deliver a monthly menu at the beginning of each month.
To be eligible, a senior must be at least 60 Years of Age, frail and homebound.
An individual needs assessment is conducted in the home to determine eligibility prior to being placed on the program. To receive Meals on Wheels, seniors may directly apply or be referred by a hospital, doctor, social worker, agency, family member or any concerned individual.
Applying for service is a simple 3 step process

- Our friendly staff will call the senior and arrange a brief in home assessment to determine eligibility.
- The senior will be notified of your eligibility/ineligibility, beginning date of service, or waiting period (depending on our caseload and financial resources).
The cost of home delivered meals varies, depending on the number of volunteers and quantity of donated food that has been received during the year. Currently, it cost approximately $7.75 to prepare and deliver each meal. A suggested donation is $2.00 per meal. We ask that seniors donate whatever amount is affordable.
No one is ever denied a meal or a place in the program if unable to donate. However, donations do impact the number of seniors that can be served each year. Seniors may adjust their donations to fit their circumstances. Donation checks are payable to Senior Nutrition Services and are mailed in postage paid envelopes that are left by the meal deliverer at the beginning of each month.
Meals on Wheels is funded by the Older Americans Act, Area 4 Agency on Aging, Sacramento County, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, City of Citrus Heights, City of Elk Grove, City of Folsom, City of Galt, City of Rancho Cordova, corporate and foundation grants, participant and other donations.
