Types of Volunteers

Delivery Drivers

Delivery drivers bring meals to homebound seniors homes. Meals are picked up from either our main facility or one of our relay sites. These sites are located in West Sacramento, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Galt, Rancho Cordova and Orangevale. Drivers must be available at least one day a week Monday through Friday between the hours of 9AM and Noon. Drivers use their own car, need a clean DMV record and must provide proof of insurance. All volunteer drivers must pass a background check. The program will reimburse drivers for mileage of the delivery route.

All Seasons CafÉ Volunteers

All Seasons Café provides meals to seniors in a congregate environment. There are 25 sites throughout Sacramento County. Volunteers help to sanitize tables, help the kitchen to serve lunch, help with registration table and clean up. We are also looking for volunteers to provide recreational activities in some of our sites. Volunteer opportunities are available with the All Seasons Cafés from Monday through Friday between 10AM and 1PM.

Kitchen Volunteers

Senior Nutrition Services operates a large commercial kitchen in West Sacramento. This kitchen prepares all of the food for Meals On Wheels and the All Seasons Café. The kitchen operates from 5:30AM until 2:00PM Monday through Friday. This kitchen prepares as much as 2600 meals a day with the potential to produce much more. Volunteers do not need experience in food service to help in the kitchen although it can be helpful.

Promotions Volunteers

Promotions volunteers, support fundraising and volunteer recruitment efforts. They frequently perform clerical duties such as stuffing envelopes or making phone calls. The office operates from 7:30AM until 4:00PM. Clerical or marketing skills can be helpful but are not a requirement to volunteer.

Event Volunteers

These volunteers are for special events. If you want to help and are not available during our regular hours. Or, if you want to be involved in short term activities this may be the right fit for you. You may be called to help with fundraisers, awareness events or other situation where we need more hands to get the job done

Group Volunteers

If your organization is interested in volunteering as a group, give us a call 444-9533 or send an email DHA-MOW@saccounty.net. Some organizations volunteer on an occasional basis and others volunteer regularly. We work with groups of many sizes and ages. We work with groups of employees, from clubs and the local Coast Guard.
