DHA Scholarship Program
Planning college for your future? Employees of Sacramento County's Department of Human Assistance raise funds annually to award college scholarships to graduating high school seniors living in Sacramento County. This collaborative college scholarship program is available to assist and encourage graduating seniors from low-income families to pursue an education at an accredited college, university, technical or trade school. The Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance (DHA) is implementing the EBT Restaurant Meals Program on May 1, 2006. With this new program, more than 4,000 elderly, disabled, or homeless people, who receive food stamp benefits in Sacramento County, will be able to purchase prepared hot meals in addition to making their grocery store purchases using their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.
Beginning January 1, 2006, Medicare Part D, the new federal prescription drug benefit, will pay for prescription drugs for Medicare/Medi-Cal dual-eligible recipients and all other Part D-eligible recipients through private prescription drug plans. This change also applies to beneficiaries in Managed Care Plans.
The Sacramento County Department of Human Assistance introduced the new CalWORKs Information Network (CalWIN) client eligibility determination system to Sacramento County on Thursday, March 3, 2005.
CalWIN automates welfare eligibility for the CalWORKs, Food Stamps, Medi-Cal, Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants, General Assistance, Refugee Assistance and Foster Care programs. It replaced a 30-year old system, allowing us to have uniform application of welfare rules and regulations by using modern technology. It is designed to streamline the processing and issuance of public assistance benefits.
EBT Restaurant Meals Program
